Mario Badescu was one of those who tackled his dreams purposefully. With a degree in chemistry and a special passion for dermatology, the native Romanian came to New York in 1967. He wanted to make the world a whole lot more beautiful and help everyone to have a radiant and healthy skin. He started this beauty revolution from his 2-room apartment in Midtown Manhattan, where he researched, formulated products and offered facial treatments.

In the research-enthusiastic era of the 1960s, his approach was avant-garde: he deliberately combined proven, natural plant substances with scientific findings; for example, he relied on the power effect of hyaluronic acid - a beauty substance that was hardly used at the time and is now indispensable.

Despite all the innovation, his philosophy was clear: his beauty products should be democratic and affordable for everyone. For this reason, the company has refrained from using elaborate and therefore expensive outer packaging to this day. A sustainable approach that is more topical than ever.

His product series and the European facial treatments did not remain a secret for long. It quickly grew in size, but remained in the same building. And although the active skin expert died in 1983, his legacy has remained an innovative and iconic care label. Loved also by celebrities like Naomi Campbell, Heidi Klum, Jennifer Aniston or Kate Moss.
