Byredo – Capturing memories through fragrances
Byredo was founded by Ben Gorham in 2006. He had the vision of designing products that capture memories and emotions and bring them back to life. Byredo perfumes have since become some of the most well-known niche perfumes out there.
Ben Gorham has now transferred his innovative way of designing products to beauty products and launched a make-up collection for Byredo.
Ben Gorham – shaped by different cultures
Ben Gorham grew up in Sweden as the son of an Indian mother and a Canadian father. He creatively incorporates the influences of different cultures into his fragrance compositions. Many Byredo fragrances have an oriental note, but never lack Scandinavian coolness. Both opulent and simple at the same time.
Gorham studied design at the Stockholm School of Art. He then met the perfumer Pierre Wulff by chance, which had a decisive influence on his original plans: instead of expressing his emotions in pictures, Gorham decided to change directions and entered the art of perfumery. He brought fragrance luminaries Olivia Giacobetti and Jerome Epinette on board to translate his inner artworks into exclusive perfumes.
Byredo perfume: an homage to memories
Byredo has already created several iconic perfumes. They all combine Scandinavian clarity with olfactory memories of faraway places and bygone times, or honor everyday emotions as a sensual experience.
- Byredo Blanche: Blanche by Byredo captures the scent of skin and fresh laundry, honoring moments of intimacy. The composition pays homage to classic beauty and the color white. The clean fragrance smells of rose, aldehyde and musk.
- Byredo Bibliothèque: Bibliothèque by Byredo transports you to an old library with leather-bound literature and heavy wooden shelves. The woody fragrance was originally available as a candle – but is now also available as a perfume on request. Bibliothèque starts with a cinnamon and plum top note, with leather emerging at the heart. A woody vanilla-patchouli accord leaves a warm base with a certain depth.
- Byredo Rose of No Man’s Land: Rose of No Man’s Land is a tribute to selflessness, as this was the name given to nurses by soldiers in the First World War. The fragrance itself is a sensual rose composition that is reinterpreted with notes of raspberry and papyrus.
- Byredo Vanille Antique: Vanille Antique is a fragrance that is perfect for the evening. A multi-layered vanilla that warms and enthralls. The heart notes are amber and cashmere wood.
- Byredo La Tulipe: The floral, fresh fragrance La Tulipe by Byredo features a flower that otherwise receives less attention in the perfume world. A fragrance that picks up on the colorful splendor of tulips and their lovely scent and translates it into a clear composition. La Tulipe is the perfect companion for a sunny day.
Byredo make-up: Brilliant colors in designer packaging
With Byredo make-up, Ben Gorham comes a little closer to his origins as a visual designer: sculptural packaging meets rich lipstick colors and creatively composed eyeshadow palettes. Some concentrate on one color family in order to show it in all its facets, others dare to create an exciting combination of different shades and thus also enable editorial looks. Byredo also offers eyeliner and refillable eyebrow pencils.
